Malawi holds HIV Law Retreat

22-26 April 2013, Malawi – Malawi held an HIV Law Retreat, convened by the Department of Nutrition, HIV & AIDS (the Office of the President), the Malawi Law Commission and UNDP, to review the Malawi Law Commission’s draft HIV Bill, 2008, in light of the recommendations made by the Global Commission on HIV and the Law and by the national Legal Environment Assessment. A Task Team was subsequently set up to integrate the wording of the proposed changes into the amended HIV Bill.

The Government of Mozambique submits amended HIV law to Parliament

24 April 2013, Mozambique – The Government of Mozambique submitted an amended HIV Law to Parliament for consideration which removed provisions to criminalise HIV transmission from Law 12/2009, amongst other things, and suggested further provisions to strengthen rights-based protection in Law 5/2002 (relating to HIV in the workplace). UNDP Mozambique supported the process by reviewing and commenting on the law.

Orientation and Planning Workshop

27-28 February 2013, Johannesburg – An orientation and Planning Workshop organised in Johannesburg to orient the UNDP Country Office Focal Points and consultants as well as the Regional Service Centre staff.
