Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) and Senator Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) introduced the Real Education for Healthy Youth Act of 2013, legislation that would give America’s youth the knowledge they need to make educated decisions about their health. The bill would expand comprehensive sex education programs in schools and ensure that federal funds are spent on effective, age-appropriate, medically accurate programs.

Congresswoman Barbara Lee Commends President’s Advisory Council on AIDS...

Washington, D.C.—In response to the announcement that the President’s Advisory Council on AIDS (PACHA) Resolution on Ending Federal and State HIV-specific Criminal Laws, Prosecutions, and Civil Commitments, Congresswoman Barbara Lee has released the following statement: “Today’s announcement is an important advancement in our collective effort to modernize unjust and discriminatory HIV criminalization laws,” said Congresswoman Barbara Lee, co-chair of the Congressional HIV/AIDS Caucus. “I join the President’s Advisory Council on AIDS in calling on the Department of Justice and the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention to issue clear guidance to states and public health departments on the counterproductive effects of HIV criminalization policies; we must end this clear discrimination against people living with HIV.

UN Commission on the Status of Women Accepts Statement on HIV Criminalization...

The 57th Session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women accepted for publication a Statement calling for the repeal of all laws criminalizing HIV transmission, exposure to HIV, or failure to disclose HIV status. The Statement, authored by The Center for HIV Law and Policy’s Adrian Guzman in his capacity as a member of the UN NGO Committee on HIV/AIDS, was submitted by Hunter College Center for Community and Urban Health, National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, and Salesian Missions, NGOs in consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council.
